Supported files and limits
What you can upload, the paper standards, and the known limits of the conversion, in one list.
Files
- Formats
- PDF (.pdf) and TIFF (.tif, .tiff).
- Size
- Up to 10 GB for each file and up to 10 files per upload, processed as a queue.
- Converted object by object: text, vectors, gradients and images are converted as PDF objects; pages are not rasterized.
- TIFF
- RGB and CMYK TIFF files are converted pixel by pixel in a separate raster pipeline and written as 8-bit CMYK, keeping an alpha channel if there is one (16-bit input is reduced to 8 bits). Grayscale TIFF files are returned unchanged. TIFF files with other bit depths or color spaces cannot be converted.
Colors and output
How RGB, CMYK, gray and spot colors are converted, and what the output carries (output intent, ICC profile, document IDs), is described object by object on the linked page.
- How GCRflow converts a print file — What is done, and not done, to each kind of PDF object; TIFF, output intent and RGB.
Paper standards
- Offered
- GRACoL 2013 (CRPC6), Fogra 27 (ISO Coated), Fogra 39 (ISO Coated v2), Fogra 51 (PSO Coated v3), with total ink limits set per standard.
- Not offered
- Uncoated or newsprint standards, and uploading your own ICC profile.
Known limits
- Implicit default color
- Text drawn with the PDF’s implicit default color (no color set, as in some Figma exports) is not converted and stays RGB.
- Blend modes
- Under blend modes other than Normal (Multiply, Overlay and others) the blended result over GCR-converted colors can differ from the original. With the option “Strict blend-mode color”, the areas under those objects are kept out of GCR.
- Overprint
- K-only objects that overprint (OPM 1) on top of GCR-converted colors can print lighter. Check overprint in your preflight as usual.
- Previews and report
- The separation preview in the job list shows the first page only. The low-resolution preview PDF (100 dpi, watermarked) and the Conversion Info report are made for PDF files only.
- Total ink limits by paper standard — Limits offered and the lowest GCR strength at each.
